Frostywind had just woken up. She was laying on her side at an unfamiliar place. She slowly got up, and coughed. Some cats were around the place she was, there was a pile of fresh kill that looked like the one from ThunderClan, but it mostly had fish. The dens were made of different things, and everything looked different, yet the same.
Frostywind sighed, and suddenly remembered the fire that had happened at ThunderClan. Her kits . . . were Hiddenkit, Tearkit and Tigerkit alright? Frostywind began limping towards the place she found most likely to be the nursery. But when she looked inside she only saw a few full-grown cats sleeping. Warriors den, thought Frostywind, irritated.
The blue-gray she-cat sighed, and then began to slowly limp to the place that she thought looked most like the warriors den. When she looked outside she saw two she-cats there, and some kits. One of the queens was a rather pale black she-cat with very pale blue eyes, the other was a dirty white she-cat with deep, yellow eyes. Frostywind couldn’t really tell which kits belonged to which queen, but two of them were snowy white with light blue eyes.
Another one was jet black with amber eyes, and the last kit was pale ginger with a white underbelly and paws. Frostywind stepped back out of the nursery, realizing none of the kits were hers. She was in RiverClan, what about all of ThunderClan? Where were they? Frostywind just managed to stop herself from yowling in a mixture of despair and loneliness. She didn’t feel she belonged, and she knew she didn’t.
Frostywind stumbled towards the medicine cats den, not caring what the medicine cat would say to her. Once she reached the den that she knew belonged to the medicine cat, she collapsed down near the center of the den and flattened her ears, her eyes barely opened. “Excuse me, but who are you?” asked a strange cat behind Frostywind. Frostywind slowly looked up to see a jet black tom cat with a snowy white chest and paws looking at her.
“Are you the medicine cat of this Clan?” asked Frostywind unexpectedly. “No, I’m just a warrior,” the cat replied simply. “Please answer my question.” Frostywind looked at him uncertainly for a few moments before answering. “I’m Frostywind, a ThunderClan warrior who doesn’t know where she is. There was just a fire on ThunderClan territory, I ended up here and I don’t know where my mate or kits are!”
The cat was giving Frostywind a sympathetic, yet amused look. “Welcome to RiverClan, for now at least, Frostywind. We’re honored to have your company. I am Ravensong, the deputy of RiverClan. I’m sorry to hear that you don’t feel like you belong,” it seemed as if this cat could feel exactly was Frostywind felt. “but all of ThunderClan is here. They’re staying a few fox lengths out of camp, though.”
Frostywind sprang to her paws. “Show me! Please!” she begged, her eyes wide open. Ravensong looked at Frostywind for a moment before nodding, and turning out of the den, giving a sign with his tail for Frostywind to follow. Frostywind didn’t hesitate to follow the RiverClan deputy, eager to see her family and her Clan again.
Frostywind followed Ravensong out of RiverClan camp, and Frostywind did pick up the familiar scent she was used to . . . Ravensong wasn’t lying to her. ThunderClan were here. Frostywind pelted ahead of Ravensong and she soon saw a large group of cats with ThunderClan scent. “Frostywind!” mewed Dawnfur, springing to her paws, and rushing over to greet her sister.
Flamestripe got up, too. Ravenstar, Duskshadow, Darkfeather, Aquarain and other ThunderClan warriors also padded over to her to greet her. Frostywind smiled. “So . . . how are Tigerkit, Tearkit and Hiddenkit?” asked Frostywind, her eyes now full of concern. A blue-gray she-cat with pale blue eyes, who looked exactly like Aquarain, rose to her paws, and pointed her tail beside her. The three kits were laying there, asleep.
Frostywind purred, and padded over to her kits. They were all asleep, but it almost seemed as if Hiddenkit wasn’t breathing. He was, of course, but it just didn’t look like it. I wonder if some kits are like that? thought Frostywind. Other kits . . ..
Frostywind just shrugged. Of course other kits were like that. Many other kits must have been. Frostywind wasn’t even sure if she had been like that, herself. Or maybe Darkfeather was. Frostywind left the kits to rest, then padded over to Darkfeather. “How did you get out of camp? And how did my kits get out of the nursery, or . . . something,” asked Frostywind, not really knowing what to say.
“Well, Dawnfur managed to get all your kits out of the nursery, but when we found you, you had passed out. We needed to get Snowleaf, but she had gone with the rest of the Clan, I, uh . . . the former medicine cat died,” Darkfeather mewed, then cleared his throat. “And so we carried you to the river, where the rest of ThunderClan was waiting, and fortunately, Snowleaf had the right herbs to give you. After that, the fire was rapidly approaching the river, so we had to cross. RiverClan let us stay until the fire is over,”
“And we can check on our territory, and rebuild it. Stupid fires,” Dawnfur added, growling. Frostywind nodded slowly. “Well,” she mewed, her tail lashing. “What are we supposed to do here? What do we know about a place we . . . don’t ever go? Do we hunt for ourselves? Surely RiverClan won’t let us hunt on their territory, surely they won’t let us take anything from the fresh kill pile . . . they won’t let us stay long, I know that for sure.”
Ravenstar just shook her head. “RiverClan aren’t like ShadowClan,” the black leader mewed calmly. “They will help a cat if they need help, and I know they won’t let us stay for moons, but it’s not like the fire will stay for moons, now is it?” Ravenstar nodded to Frostywind, and continued, “We’ll go back within four days . . . I can promise you that,”
Frostywind nodded slowly once more. “Alright,” she mewed, and coughed. “Well, can I go hunting?”
“No,” Ravenstar replied simply, smiling. “Why not?” asked Frostywind, gaping at her leader. “I believe you have some kits to look after, am I correct?” mewed Ravenstar, casting a glance at the currently sleeping kits. “Fine,” grumbled Frostywind, and she slowly padded towards her three kits. She sat down a tail length away from them, and stared at them, deep in thought.

Darkfeather walked around the unfamiliar territory, not even knowing if mice, or other woodland prey even lived in RiverClan. He sighed, finally giving up on the search for prey. Fish must be the only thing RiverClan ever caught . . . Would he be allowed to fish on their territory? I better ask permission, first, thought Darkfeather. Some cat might get angry if they see me taking their precious prey.
Darkfeather sighed once more, and began trying to find his way back to the group of ThunderClan warriors, or RiverClan camp. He had no trouble finding it, because that’s where the scent was freshest. He soon found the camp, and padded into it, ignoring the hostile glares and uneasy glances he saw from the RiverClan cats. He made his way straight to the leaders den.
“Cheethahstar?” meowed Darkfeather, standing right outside the den. “Enter,” came the voice of Cheetahstar. Darkfeather padded into the den, and looked around for a few moments before sitting. “I know I’m not in RiverClan,” he mewed before saying anything else. “And I can’t find any woodland prey here, so I’m just wondering if I’m allowed to hunt fish in your territory.”
“Of course,” mewed Cheetahstar. “Don’t take all of them. I’ll get Ravensong to teach some of you how to hunt fish. But once you’re back in ThunderClan, if we catch you setting paw in our river, then expect your fur to be clawed off.”
Darkfeather nodded, his whiskers twitching. “Ravensong should be returning from border patrol about now,” Cheetahstar continued. “He’s the one with a black pelt and white chest and paws.”
Darkfeather nodded again. “Thank you,” he mewed, stepping out of the den. Darkfeather began pacing around the unfamiliar camp, waiting for the warrior he had pictured in his mind to appear. The warrior that Cheetahstar had described to him. Soon enough, the border patrol was returning. There was an ash-gray cat with emerald green eyes and black paws on the patrol. That was the first cat Darkfeather saw to emerge from the fern entrance.
After the ash-gray cat came a ginger she-cat with a white chest and white paws, she had amber-yellow eyes, slightly narrowed as if she didn’t enjoy the patrol or something. The last to come was a jet black tom. He had a white chest and paws like Cheetahstar had told him . . . Darkfeather pelted over to the fern entrance and stopped in front of the cat he expected to be Ravensong.
Darkfeather cleared his throat, and stammered, “Er . . . do you happen to be Ravensong?” Darkfeather sounded nervous.
“Yes, deputy of RiverClan, the one and only Ravensong,” the black and white warrior replied kindly. “Okay, well, Cheetahstar told me that I’m allowed to hunt for fish here . . . And she said that you might be able to teach me? I know I can’t hunt a lot, but I just want to get enough to feed most of my Clan. I’m Darkfeather,” Darkfeather added quickly.
Ravensong nodded. “Of course I’ll teach you,” he mewed. This cat was very kind . . . the obvious choice for deputy. No wonder Cheetahstar had picked him.
‘Thanks,” Darkfeather replied, bowing his head to the RiverClan deputy. Ravensong began walking back out of the fern entrance, Darkfeather followed. “So, you used to be a rogue named Darkness, didn’t you?” asked Ravensong unexpectedly once they were a few fox lengths away from RiverClan camp.
There was a short silence. “Yes,” Darkfeather replied finally. Ravensong nodded. “You’ve changed quite a lot, haven’t you? Killed by accident when you were only just a kit, killed for fun when you got older. But now you seem quite kind.” Ravensong continued. Darkfeather just nodded, not knowing what to say.
“I think you’ll be a great warrior,” mewed Ravensong kindly, smiling. “Thanks,” Darkfeather murmured, shocked by this warriors’ kindness to a former murderer . . .
The two cats soon reached the river of which RiverClan hunted for fish. “Okay,” mewed Ravensong, starting a completely different subject. “The first step is the easiest. Just stare at the water until you see a fish underwater.”
Darkfeather nodded, and his ears twitched. He was staring at the water, and even saw a fish swim by, but since he didn’t know what to do next, he let it go. “The moment you see the fish, outstretch one of your paws, and bat it out of the water.” Ravensong continued, making an imitation of batting out a fish. Darkfeather nodded again. “Once it’s on the riverbank, either claw or bite it, your choice. Then you have your prey!” Ravensong finished.
“Should I let you try, or should I show you first?” he asked after a few moments. “Can you show me, first?” asked Darkfeather politely, turning his gaze to Ravensong. Ravensong nodded, and Darkfeather turned his gaze back into the water in front of the RiverClan deputy.
Darkfeather watched a fish swim past him and go over to the place Ravensong was standing in front of. Ravensong obviously saw the fish, for he outstretched his paw instinctively and clawed the fish out of the water. Immediately, Ravensong crouched down to swiftly kill the fish with a bite.
Darkfeather was impressed by the warriors’ skill. “Great!” mewed Darkfeather. “I’ll try . . .” he mewed, and turned back to the water to look out for fish. It seemed like ages that he was staring into his reflection in the water until finally he saw a fish swimming past. He outstretched his paw as fast as he could, and just managed to claw it out of the water. Darkfeather’s claws were already unsheathed, so he clawed the life out of the fish easily.
“Good job!” mewed Ravensong. “Your first try, too. And you don’t even have RiverClan blood in you!”
He sounded quite impressed. Darkfeather just nodded his thanks. “Want to try again? You did say you wanted enough to feed all of ThunderClan,” Ravensong sounded slightly amused. “Sure,” replied Darkfeather, almost yawning. He had only pretended to sleep the last three nights, something was really bothering him.
Darkfeather turned back to the slowly flowing river and almost immediately spotted another fish. He clawed it out of the water like he had done last time, and once again killed it by raking his claws across its slippery body. He may not have been doing his fish-hunting the right way, but it worked for him and wasn’t that what mattered?
Darkfeather continued to stare into the water. Two fish were swimming in front of him. He outstretched his paw, clawed the first out of the river, then without bothering to kill it, he outstretched his paw again and clawed barely managed to claw the other out of the river. He gave a swift bite to the first fish, and clawed the second right after. It seemed as if he had a natural talent for catching fish. Or maybe it was just luck.
Luck. That must be it, thought Darkfeather. He was born in ShadowClan, raised in ShadowClan . . . now he was in ThunderClan. Maybe he should go back to ShadowClan? This was one reason Darkfeather felt out of place in ThunderClan. His blood.
Darkfeather had to be reminded by Ravensong that he was still hunting for fish, and Darkfeather immediately turned back to the water. He stared at his reflection once more until he saw another fish swimming in front of him. He outstretched his paw, but he was too late.
Darkfeather sighed. He had caught three fish, Ravensong had caught one, but Ravensong had left the hunting to Darkfeather. “I have a lot on my mind,” mewed Darkfeather solemnly, turning to Ravensong. “I think I should go back to my Clan for now.”
Ravensong just nodded. “I understand. You can take whoever you want with you here tomorrow, whenever you want. I enjoyed hunting with you today,” and with that, the black and white warrior began padding back towards RiverClan camp.
Darkfeather just shrugged, and retraced his steps back to where ThunderClan were. He dropped the fish he had caught near Ravenstar, then walked over towards Frostywind, Tigerkit, Tearkit and Hiddenkit.
“Hi,” murmured Darkfeather. “Hi,” Frostywind replied, not taking her gaze away from the three kits. “I’m tired, I think I’m going to go to sleep . . .” murmured Darkfeather. Frostywind nodded, and Darkfeather walked over towards a willow tree that was near. He laid down in front of it and soon, he fell asleep.

New chapter fonts/colors... Darkfeather Dawnfur Flamestripe Frostywind Tigerkit Tearkit Hiddenkit - Dawnfur paced around RiverClan territory impatiently. Earlier today, Ravenstar had said that Dawnfur should check on ThunderClan territory, see how burnt it was and see how much repair it needed. Maybe see if they could even go back. But Ravenstar still hadn’t said when Dawnfur could go.
Dawnfur saw Flamestripe walk over to her. “Ravenstar said we can go now,” he mewed, dipping his head. “Finally,” mewed Dawnfur. She bounded away from where the rest of the ThunderClan cats were, Flamestripe following her. Dawnfur scented the air for the river that was the border with ThunderClan. There was a faint trace coming from the north, but it was getting stronger when Dawnfur drew nearer.
Soon, Dawnfur and Flamestripe reached the river border. Flamestripe nodded to Dawnfur, and Dawnfur slowly padded into the cold water. She didn’t exactly like to swim, she wasn’t from RiverClan, but she hated this unfamiliar territory, and she was eager to get ThunderClan territory back. No matter how much repair they had to do to it.
Dawnfur thrashed her legs in a bad attempt at swimming to the other side, but she did make it. Once she was on dry land again, she growled and shook the water off of her fur. She was still a little wet and shivering, but she waited until Flamestripe had gotten across before continuing to ThunderClan camp.
She was finally on territory she knew by heart. Flamestripe followed her to where ThunderClan camp used to be. They passed a few burnt trees, and other things the fire had caused while on their way back. Prey would be scarce even if they did decide to return to the territory. The fire would have scared it all off if it didn’t kill them.
Dawnfur was soon at ThunderClan camp. It looked so unfamiliar, it looked as if it were just part of the forest, but with a clearing and fallen dens. They would need many things to rebuild their home, but Dawnfur decided they must return. She wouldn’t spend one more day on RiverClan territory with those angry eyes glaring at them just because they could, where the scent of water and fish was all she could smell.
Dawnfur walked around ThunderClan camp for a bit, examining the burnt things laying everywhere on the forest ground. She turned to Flamestripe. “We have to come back,” she mewed, her eyes narrowing.
Flamestripe just nodded. “Let’s go back to Ravenstar and tell her what we found,” Flamestripe replied. “And what we think we should do,” added Dawnfur, turning back to walk to RiverClan again
“Ravenstar,” mewed Dawnfur, bowing her head to the ThunderClan leader. “The forest is burnt, and we know that prey will be scarce,” she mewed, glancing around for a moment. “And ThunderClan camp is destroyed, but we must return.” Ravenstar nodded. “I think we should as well,” she mewed.
“All ThunderClan cats old enough to catch their own prey, join here for a Clan meeting,”
Dawnfur sat down where she was to listen to Ravenstar. ThunderClan cats were gathering around their leader as well, excited to have a normal Clan gathering already. Ravenstar nodded to Dawnfur and Flamestripe. “These two cats will tell you what they saw that happened to ThunderClan territory and camp,” mewed Ravenstar. Flamestripe walked over to Ravenstar, Dawnfur followed.
“The territory was burnt,” mewed Flamestripe, his eyes closed as if trying to remember every detail, every tree, every leaf and everything that that he had seen while going back to ThunderClan. “And the fire must have scared away the prey that wasn’t killed by it.” He continued, opening his eyes again.
“A few trees had fallen, but there should be new ones growing to take their place if StarClan really believes that we should have our territory back.” Flamestripe then nodded to Dawnfur, who was to explain what happened in camp. “All the dens had fallen, burnt,” Dawnfur meowed, looking down into the crowd of cats but looking at no cat, as if no one was there but herself.
“But we can rebuild them.” Dawnfur added, narrowing her eyes and stepping back. Ravenstar then stepped forward. “We are returning to ThunderClan!” she yowled. Some cats also yowled in excitement or happiness. “I will go inform Cheetahstar that we are leaving,” mewed Ravenstar, then she nodded to Duskshadow. “You and Aquarain lead the Clan back to ThunderClans territory,”
Duskshadow and Aquarain both dipped their heads to their leader. Ravenstar began pelting towards RiverClan camp which wasn’t very far away. “Queens, elders and their kits, form a line behind Aquarain!” yowled Duskshadow. The cats obeyed. “Warriors and apprentices, follow me!”
Dawnfur padded over to Duskshadow, Flamestripe following. Duskshadow began walking towards the river which Dawnfur had went to not long ago. “Warriors and apprentices, start going across the river!” yowled Duskshadow once they had reached the river border. Duskshadow walked over towards Aquarain. “Queens, swim across,” mewed Aquarain. “Dawnfur, Flamestripe and Darkfeather,” mewed Duskshadow loudly.
Dawnfur padded over to Duskshadow. Flamestripe and Darkfeather were behind her. “You help take the kits across.” He mewed. Frostywind padded over to Dawnfur, Flamestripe and Darkfeather. She gently put her kits in front of them.
Dawnfur picked up Tigerkit, and walked over towards the river. Frostywind was already swimming across. Dawnfur padded into the water, it wasn’t too deep when you first walked into it.
Dawnfur was soon in the center of the river, the deepest part. She began swimming across, making sure Tigerkit didn’t go underwater. Dawnfur soon reached the other side, wet and freezing, and she padded over to Frostywind and gently dropped Tigerkit in front of her. “Thanks, Dawnfur,” mewed Frostywind kindly. Dawnfur nodded to Frostywind, and began swimming back across again. Flamestripe and Darkfeather were at the center of the river right now, Flamestripe carrying Hiddenkit, and Darkfeather with Tearkit.
Dawnfur soon got back to the other side again, and picked up another kit. She swam across as quickly as she could, and put the kit down in front of its mother.- I'm a little angry, so I'm not going to continue right now.

I don't really remember right now... I'm going to skip to five moons later, because I can't write about cats repairing territory or things like that, and so Tigerkit, Hiddenkit, Tearkit and a few other kits will become apprentices... - Tigerkit padded around ThunderClan camp. She was supposed to become an apprentice today, along with her brother and sister, and a few other kits. She was pacing in front of the nursery, waiting for Ravenstar to come out of her den and call the Clan together so she could become an apprentice.
Normally, Tigerkit wasn't so anxious, but today she was. She was excited because she was going to become an apprentice, and happy as well. She wondered who her mentor was, and she wondered if her mentor would be nice to her or not. Would her mentor even like her? What if her mentor found that she wasn't good enough?
Tigerkit had too many questions, and too little answers. She sighed, and continued to pace in front of the nursery, until finally, she saw Ravenstar walk out of her den. Finally! Tigerkit thought, realizing she had never been this impatient before. Tigerkit watched from where she was, no longer pacing, as Ravenstar leaped onto the Highstone to call her Clan together.
"All cats old enough to catch their own prey, join here beneath the Highstone for a Clan meeting."
Tigerkit looked around for Tearkit and Hiddenkit before walking towards the Highstone. She waited and Ravenstar waited for all of ThunderClan to be listening. "Tigerkit," Ravenstar mewed. Tigerkit walked, trying to be calm, over to Ravenstar. "From this moment you will be known as Tigerpaw. Your mentor will be Dawnfur,"
Ravenstar turned dark blue gaze to Dawnfur. "Dawnfur, you are a loyal and trustworthy warrior, and I trust you to pass on all you know to Tigerpaw." Tigerpaw looked at Dawnfur, who nodded. She walked over to her new mentor, and touched noses with Dawnfur.
Tigerpaw sat down to watch her friends and kin become apprentices. "Tearkit," Ravenstar called. Tigerpaw watched her sister walk over to Ravenstar. "From this moment you will be known as Tearpaw. Your mentor will be Darkfeather," Ravenstar turned her gaze to Darkfeather. "Dearkfeather, you are a strong and faithful warrior and I trust you to pass on all you know to Tearpaw."
Darkfeather nodded, and Tigerpaw watched as Tearpaw walked over to touch noses with her new mentor. "Hiddenkit," Ravenstar meowed loudly enough for the Clan to hear. Hiddenkit stalked over towards Ravenstar. "From this moment you will be known as Hiddenpaw. I will mentor you."
Tigerpaw watched Hiddenpaw touch noses with Ravenstar, then walk away from her. "Swiftkit," Ravenstar called. Tigerpaw watched her friend, Swiftkit, approach Ravenstar. "Swiftkit, from this moment you will be known as Swiftpaw. Your mentor will be Frostywind. Frostywind, you are a courageous and loyal warrior, and I trust you to pass on all you know ot Swiftpaw."
Tigerpaw watched Swiftpaw walk over towards his new mentor, and touch noses with Frostywind. - I'm busy right now... lol.

Tigerpaw turned her attention back to Ravenstar as the black leader waited a few heartbeats before continuing the ceremonies. Her ears twitched when she heard one of her friends name called. "Leafkit," Ravenstar's voice was clear and steady as she called Leafkit's name. Tigerkit anxiously looked around for her friend, and soon saw the tortoiseshell seemingly calmly walking over to the Highstone and Ravenstar. Tigerpaw watched as Leafkit jumped up beside Ravenstar. "From this moment, until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Leafpaw." Ravenstar turned her emerald green gaze to the crowd of warriors, and Tigerpaw noticed it rested on one particular warrior; Spottedfire. "Spottedfire, you have proved yourself loyal and strong in both the ways of a warrior and some knowledge of herbs. You will be mentor to Leafpaw." Spottedfire nodded, a happy expression in her gleaming amber eyes. Tigerpaw noticed Spottedfire's calico pelt almost looked like it was glowing because the sun was shining especially on her. Tigerpaw once more turned her attention, to Leafpaw. Her friend was already nearing Spottedfire, and Tigerpaw happily watched as she touched noses with her new mentor. Ravenstar was still in view, and Tigerpaw noticed the black leader give a flick of her tail to the Clan, as if telling them that was the end of the ceremonies now. Almost immediately, warriors, queens, elders and elder apprentice began chanting the new apprentices names. "Tigerpaw! Tearpaw! Hiddenpaw! Swiftpaw! Leafpaw! Tigerpaw! Tearpaw! Hiddenpaw! Swiftpaw! Leafpaw!" Tigerpaw felt a rush of pride each time her name was called. Turning to her mentor, she asked, "When are we going to train?" Dawnfur's whiskers twitched in amusement. "Whenever you want." "How about now?" Tigerpaw replied swiftly, trying her best to stay calm, but it was hard when she had just became an apprentice. "Alright," Dawnfur replied in an amused tone of voice. "Would you like to start with hunting or battle techniques?" she asked. Tigerpaw sat down and thought for a few moments, but she really knew what her answer would be. "Fighting," Tigerpaw replied in a both brave and proud tone. She definitely wanted to learn more of how to defend ThunderClan in case of attack. Dawnfur just nodded, and gave her a sign to follow her out of camp, but Dawnfur stopped when someone called her name. Turning around, Dawnfur realized it was Spottedfire. Tigerpaw saw Leafpaw with her, and bounded over to her friend happily, though her attention was to the warriors. "Sorry for stopping you," Spottedfire mewed after stopping in front of Dawnfur. "But Leafpaw tells me she would like to train with Tigerpaw, so I'm wondering if that's alright with you." Dawnfur glanced at the two apprentices, but then her gaze once more rested on Spottedfire. "Of course. Tigerpaw told me she would like to battle train first, if that's alright with you and Leafpaw." she mewed, her ears pricked. "It's fine with me," Spottedfire responded, nodding. Leafpaw's mentor turned to her apprentice, "Do you agree?" "Yes!" Leafpaw mewed happily, her tail lashing in excitement for her first training session with her friend. Spottedfire nodded again, a gleam of amusement in her eyes. "Alright then, let's go."
Spottedfire and Dawnfur padded towards the entrance, Tigerpaw and Leafpaw following excitedly. It would be their second time out of camp; the first time they left because of the fire. But Tigerpaw was quite young then, and her memories were only vague. She remembered the soot on her fur, the flames around her, the yowls of shock . . . She remembered being brought across the river to RiverClan territory, but that was all. Tigerpaw remembered the feeling of fear when the nursery began to burn, and collapse, when the moss and hay under her paws began to catch on fire . . . But there was no point in remembering the past right now, especially not at this moment. She was about to start her first training session, that was what mattered. Leafpaw began to speed up, so Tigerpaw did the same. "This is going to be exciting!" Leafpaw mewed as she leaped over a fallen tree. Tigerpaw leaped over it, and nodded her agreement. "We'll finally learn how to defend our Clan like warriors. And we might be able to go to a Gathering soon!" Tigerpaw couldn't resist adding. She was so anxious to go to her first Gathering, she knew she might be overwhelmed by the scents and cats, but that didn't matter to her right now. Tigerpaw soon found herself lost in her thoughts, but snapped out of it quickly. She leaped over another fallen tree in her path, but Leafpaw stumbled and tripped. Tigerpaw turned to see if she was alright, but she was already on her paws again and she quickly leaped over the tree, her whiskers twitching in embarassment. Tigerpaw decided to pretend she didn't notice, though she knew Leafpaw saw her. Tigerpaw stopped when she saw a leaf green bush, she stopped right beside it. The bush had interesting loooking scarlet, red berries. She curiously prodded one of the bush with her paw, and watched it roll over the ground and then stop. Tigerpaw didn't notice Leafpaw turning to see what she was doing. "What are those?" Leafpaw asked, padding up to Tigerpaw, who shrugged. "I'm not sure." she replied simply, pawing the berry again. Tigerpaw wondered if their mentors had noticed that they weren't following anymore, and if they had, because of a berry. "Tigerpaw, Leafpaw?" she heard Dawnfur's call. "Should we respond?" asked Tigerpaw, not taking her eyes off the berry, her mouth beginning to water. She liked fresh-kill, but she couldn't hunt and there was nothing around . . . Leafpaw just blinked, not knowing how to reply. Tigerpaw crouched down to eat the berry now. She was about to lap it up into her mouth, when a black paw swatted it away from her. "Tigerpaw!" a familiar voice hissed, and Tigerpaw looked up to see her mentor's narrowed eyes glaring at her. Tigerpaw jumped to her paws. "I'm sorry, Dawnfur, I was just hungry and I -" she broke off, when Dawnfur began to speak, her tail pointing to the bush of scarlet berries. "Do you know what those berries are?" she asked. Tigerpaw could see she was fighting with herself to remain calm. Tigerpaw shook her head. "No, Dawnfur, but they looked tasty and it wasn't dirty, so it wouldn't -" Dawnfur cut her off again. "Tigerpaw, don't you know not to eat something if you don't know what it is?" she mewed, a hint of coldness in her voice. Tigerpaw nodded. "I know that!" she defended herself, glancing at Leafpaw, who had a confused and helpless glint in her eyes, Spottedfire next to her. "That's the first thing, then. Never do that again, Tigerpaw." Dawnfur hissed, but her voice didn't have anger in it at all. "Do you have any idea about what that berry can do to you?" her mentor asked, an unreadable glint in her narrowed eyes. Tigerpaw shook her head again, feeling bad about herself. "No, Dawnfur." was all she replied, dropping her gaze to her paws. "It's called the death berry," Dawnfur meowed, and Tigerpaw rose her gaze back to her mentor's face. "Why does it have that name?" she asked curiously. She knew Leafpaw was feeling the same way. "Because three of them can kill the strongest warrior." Dawnfur responded, her tail lashing. "One could kill a new apprentice like you. They're poisonous, Tigerpaw, once your tongue touches them, you're poisoned. The only way to get rid of most the poison is being gave yarrow leaves from Snowleaf, and that just makes you sick so you'll vomit the poison." Dawnfur was shaking her head. Tigerpaw's eyes were wide with shock, and she turned to the berry Dawnfur had swatted away from her, which now looked like a mouse ate part of it, then thew it away. "Promise me you'll never touch something you don't know, you'll show me first." Dawnfur mewed, staring at Tigerpaw straight in the eye. Tigerpaw nodded. "I promise," she mewed solemnly, getting over the shock of the poison her mentor had stopped her from eating. "Now then," Dawnfur added, changing the subject. "Should we get to the training hollow, or sit her talking all day?"
"Attack me," Dawnfur and Spottedfire mewed at the same time, Spottedfire to Leafpaw and Dawnfur to Tigerpaw. Tigerpaw didn't hesitate; she leaped up and was ready to push Dawnfur over with her front paws, but Dawnfur dodged to the right. Tigerpaw landed on her forepaws, then looked over at her mentor. "Good try," Dawnfur mewed, nodding to Tigerpaw. "Remember; it's a good idea to try and trick your opponent. Also, make sure you're quick or they'll have time to dodge no matter what you're planning." Tigerpaw nodded, and without waiting for Dawnfur to tell her to attack again, she pounced, but landed behing Dawnfur like she intended to. She spun around, and then ran forward, bowling Dawnfur over. Dawnfur quickly got to her paws and looked at Tigerpaw, who was holding back her laughter. "Good move . . ." Dawnfur mumured, sounding slightly shocked. Tigerpaw smiled. "Thanks." she replied, her tail lashing. Dawnfur nodded. "Attack me again, but try to use a different techinique. If you don't," she added, her tail lashing. "Your opponent will know exactly what to do and where to dodge." Tigerpaw nodded a moment before jumping once more at Dawnfur. She had been able to come up with another technique in her mind at once. She tripped clumsily on purpose, hoping Dawnfur would go on with the plan. And luckily, her mentor didn't know this was all a trick, and leaped at Tigerpaw, pinning her down. The second Dawnfur had her pinned, Tigerpaw kicked up with her hind paws, sending Dawnfur flying off of her. Tigerpaw shot to her paws and dashed over to Dawnfur, jumping and pushing her over with her front paws. "That was all my plan," she purred when her mentor siwftly rose to her paws again. "Including the getting pinned part, it's an easy way to make your opponent think that they're doing everything right or whatever." "Great," Dawnfur mewed in an impressed tone. "This time, I'll attack you and you have to either dodge or defend yourself, and ruin my plan." Tigerpaw nodded in understanding, and backed up a few paces. Dawnfur pounced, but Tigerpaw was prepared for it, and swiftly moved to the right, dodging her mentor. Dawnfur must have already planned for this, for she took Tigerpaw by surprise, already on her paws and only a tail-length away from her . . . She was thinking when she should have moved. Dawnfur had bowled her over. Tigerpaw leaped to her paws and shook her head violently, then looked over at Dawnfur. "Good try," her mentor commented. "But you have to be prepared for anything." Tigerpaw nodded in understanding, and she stood where she was. Dawnfur leaped at her, but Tigerpaw didn't move. She immediately stood on her hind paws, and while Dawnfur was coming, she cuffed her mentors ear, and then before Dawnfur could touch her, skidded to the left to dodge. Dawnfur landed on her forepaws, only a tail length in front of Tigerpaw, who stood proudly. "I'm good, aren't I?" she mewed, her tail lashing happily. Dawnfur smiled. "Yes, definitely the best apprentice I've had," her mentor replied. Tigerpaw's eyes shone in gratitude. "I think you're a fine fighter. Anyway, Leafpaw and Spottedfire are still practicing. Let's watch them for a while, then we'll take a tour of the territory." Tigerpaw nodded, and turned to her friend and her mentor. Leafpaw was creeping silently behind Spottedfire, who was looking around rapidly, not knowing her apprentice was behind her. Tigerpaw watched, a gleam of amusement in her eyes, as Spottedfire was pinned from behind. Leafpaw was on top of Spottedfire now, an proud and successful expression in her sparkling eyes.
Leafpaw and Spottedfire soon stopped practicing and they both walked over to Leafpaw and Dawnfur. Leafpaw waved her tail in greeting to Tigerpaw. "You're a good fighter," Tigerpaw complimented her friend. Leafpaw nodded her thanks. "Same goes for you," Leafpaw replied happily. Tigerpaw nodded, then turned to their mentors just in time to see Spottedfire nod. Dawnfur turned to Tigerpaw and Leafpaw. "We'll take a quick tour of our territory and the borders, then you can get something to eat and get some rest." Dawnfur mewed. The two apprentices nodded. Glancing up at the sky, Leafpaw noticed it was slowly getting dark out. She knew they wouldn't have much time, but she didn't mind. She followed Dawnfur and Spottedfire beside Leafpaw. The two warriors were leading them in a different direction from the one they came, they were going in the direction the wind was blowing. Leafpaw took in the images of ThunderClan territory vividly into her mind as she passed new plants, a few more fallen trees, streams and more. Dawnfur and Spottedfire stopped at a small fallen tree, Tigerpaw and Leafpaw stopping as well. "This," Spottedfire mewed gently. "Is the border with ShadowClan. Remember their scent." Tigperpaw nodded, opening her mouth to taste the scents of ShadowClan. She recoiled only moments after she had scented the air. "Disgusting!" she spat. Dawnfur and Spottedfire watched, amused. Leafpaw didn't say anything, but Tigerpaw could tell she hated the reek of ShadowClan just as much as she did. Their mentors turned again. "Next is WindClan." Dawnfur meowed, speeding up to a brisk trot as well as Spottedleaf. Tigerpaw and Leafpaw continued to follow. Tigerpaw's throat was dry, and she coughed. Dawnfur stopped, and turned to her apprentice. "Are you okay?" she asked. Tigerpaw nodded. "Just thirsty," she mumbled in a croaky voice. Dawnfur nodded slightly, then turned again. Tigerpaw knew they had reached the border, because the two warriors stopped. Before Dawnfur or Spottedfire even asked her to, she opened her mouth and took in the scents of the WindClan. She closed her jaws again, finding the smell much better than ShadowClan. She glanced at Leafpaw, who had just finished scenting the air. Spottedfire and Dawnfur nodded with no comments, and turned. Tigerpaw knew they were heading towards the RiverClan border, because that was the only Clan left besides their own.
"This is the border with RiverClan." Dawnfur meowed, flicking her tail at the river. Tigerpaw didn't take in the scents before swiftly stalking to the edge of the river and lapping up some water to quench her thirst. Tigerpaw then lifted her head again, and opened her jaws to taste the scent of RiverClan. Tigerpaw growled once she smelled it. Dawnfur looked at her. "Why, you don't like it?" she asked. Tigerpaw shook her head. "It's not that," the black and golden apprentice mewed, her eyes narrowed. "I smell ShadowClan there." Dawnfur blinked in shock, and then immediately drank in the scents of RiverClan. She drew back. "You're right . . ." Dawnfur murmured. "They might be planning something," There was a hint of distrust in her voice, but it was almost drowned out by suspicion. "Sorry, Tigerpaw, Leafpaw," Spottedfire mewed, shaking her head. "We have to get back to camp and report this to Ravenstar. We'll show you parts of ThunderClan territory once we return." Tigerpaw nodded, feeling tired anyway. Leafpaw was okay with it too, Tigerpaw could tell, for her only response was a yawn. The two apprentices started to follow their mentors back to camp. Tigerpaw looked up at the darkening sky once more, realizing the sun was slowly going down.
Soon, the four cats reached ThunderClan again. Dawnfur and Spottedfire swerved in the direction of Ravenstar's den, while Tigerpaw led the way to the apprentices den. She walked into the unfamiliar den, and laid down on an empty nest of moss at a corner. She had trouble getting to sleep for some reason. She felt uncomfortable for some reason, but she couldn't tell why. It's nothing, Tigerpaw told herself. If something was wrong I'd know what it was. It seemed to her like she was trying for moons to get to sleep. She was really tired, but she still felt as if something was wrong, even though she thought she was sure there wasn't. She sighed inwardly, and rose to her paws. She padded out of the apprentices den and looked up at the sky. The moon was rising. She had been attempting to get to sleep for that long. She sighed again, and was about to turn when she heard a loud yowl. She almost jumped, shocked by the sudden noise. It was faint; the cat who yowled must've been on ThunderClan territory, but nowhere near camp. Tigerpaw stalked back into the apprentices den and prodded Leafpaw with her paw. "Wake up!" she hissed quietly to her friend. She waited, until finally, Leafpaw drowsily blinked open her eyes. "What is it?" she asked in a sleepy tone. "Someone's in trouble. I heard a yowl." Tigerpaw responded, not feeling tired at all anymore. Leapaw sprang to his paws. "You wake Tearpaw, Hiddenpaw and Swiftpaw," Tigerpaw mewed to her friend. "I'm going to tell Ravenstar." Leapfaw nodded, and Tigerpaw turned around and raced out of the den. She began to run towards the leaders' den, hoping it wasn't too late. She heard another yowl, it sounded as if some cat was getting attacked. Tigerpaw walked into the den, and prodded Ravenstar awake. She waited impatiently as Ravenstar woke up, and sleepily looked up at Tigerpaw, but before she could say anything, Tigerpaw began to explain why she had woken her up. Ravenstar nodded. "I'll get a few warriors to come with me to check it out." the black leader meowed, but Tigerpaw just flicked her tail irritably. "Can't me and Leafpaw come?" she asked. Ravenstar sighed. "Fine, there's no time to waste time. Tigerpaw nodded, her tail lashing excitedly, and backed out of the den so Ravenstar could go find some warriors. Tigerpaw bounded over to Leafpaw, who was outside the apprentices den. "Tearpaw isn't there," Leafpaw reported. "Neither is Hiddenpaw. Swiftpaw doesn't believe me and doesn't want to get up." Tigerpaw sighed. "Oh well, Ravenstar is getting some warriors. Let's go wait by the entrance." the golden and black she-cat meowed, not really realizing she was giving an order. Leafpaw nodded her agreement, and bounded over to the camp entrance, Leafpaw right behind her. They only had to wait a few moments before Ravenstar came, followed by Duskshadow, Flamestripe, Aquarain and Darkfeather. Ravenstar nodded to them, then pointed her tail to the back, as an order to follow them all at the rear. Leafpaw had no objection, and Tigerpaw didn't voice hers as she followed Leafpaw to the back. Ravenstar and the four warriors were dashing swiftly towards the noise, Leafpaw and Tigerpaw refusing to be left behind, and following just as fast. Tigerpaw felt they were wasting time just passing places. She stifled a sigh, wishing cats could just go to their destination the second they wanted to get there, but she knew that would never happen.
Tigerpaw gasped when they reached they reached their destination. It was strangely silent, but there were three loner cats surrounding two apprentices. One was bleeding badly, blood gushing out of wounds everywhere, and the other was crouching down beside him, protecting him from any further danger. The glint in her eyes simply dared any cat to come nearer. Hiddenpaw was the injured one, and Tearpaw was the one defending him. Tigerpaw dashed over to her sister. "W-what happened?" she stammered breathlessly. Tearpaw shook her head. "I'll explain later," she mewed through gritted teeth. Tigerpaw saw the sense in that, and nodded, turning to glare at the loners. Each of them were black and white, the largest one was the only she-cat. The she-cat had ice blue eyes, but the two toms had fierce, amber-yellow eyes. The two toms looked identical, except for the fact one was smaller than the other. Tigerpaw noticed Leafpaw stand beside her, fur bristling angrily. Ravenstar led the four warriors to approach the loners. "What are you doing on ThunderClan territory?" asked Ravenstar calmly, though by the look in her eyes, Tigerpaw could tell she was furious. "More importantly, why in the name of StarClan did you attack Hiddenpaw and Tearpaw?"
The she-cat took a step towards Ravenstar, and stood in front of her. She smirked. "I'm a loner, and I travel freely with my companions. No Clan cat could ever tell me what to do, not even a leader like yourself. I do not believe in this 'StarClan' and whatever it is, I don't care. As for your second question," the she-cat added in a growling voice. "They attacked me, I attack back. Not my problem." "It might not be your problem, but it is your fault you ugly piece of foxdung!" Darkfeather snarled, unsheathing his claws and digging them deep into the ground. The she-cat smirked again. "I don't care for your insults," she mewed calmly. "All I really want to do is kill you all. Rage, Envy," the she-cat mewed, turning to her companions. She flicked her tail as a sign, a sign that would mean attack to the Clan cats, but they didn't attack. They simply turned, and raced off, led by the she-cat. Ravenstar snarled at them, "And if you return we'll rip your fur out!" Tigerpaw turned to face Hiddenpaw, who was nearly unrecognizable because of all the scarlet blood on his black fur. The blood reminded Tigerpaw of the death berries she had almost eaten, but why would death berries matter at a time like this? "It would injure him even more to take him back to camp." Aquarain mewed to Ravenstar. "One of us will have to go back to camp and get Snowleaf." The black leader nodded, not meeting anyone's gaze, but resting hers on the terribly wounded apprentice. "Flamestripe, do you mind going? You're fast, I know you'd get there quickly." Ravenstar mewed distractedly, padding over to Hiddenpaw. "Alright," Flamestripe agreed, and turned. He raced swiftly back towards camp. Ravenstar sat down beside Hiddenpaw and sighed. She looked up uneasily at Tearpaw and Tigerpaw. "You know he might not survive, don't you?" she asked, knowing the apprentices would disagree in hope that he would live. Tearpaw hissed and unsheathed her claws, just as Ravenstar had suspected. "He'll live and you know it." she spat. Tigerpaw said nothing, but just stared at Hiddenpaw's closed eyes, and the blood ruffling his fur. She sighed. It seemed as if she had been waiting for moons just for Snowleaf to arrive. Her eyes widened when she saw Hiddenpaw, but she said nothing as she dropped the herbs in her mouth, Flamestripe dropping some from his jaws as well. "I might not have enough cobwebs," the young medicine cat mewed, pressing some cobwebs already lightly onto Hiddenpaw's wounds. "Leafpaw, could you find some for me?" Tigerpaw noticed Leafpaw look slightly shocked at being chosen instead of a warrior to find something, but she shrugged, then nodded, and dashed off. Tigerpaw once more turned her attention to Hiddenpaw. Parts of his fur was covered in cobwebs now, but Tigerpaw noticed that Snowleaf had ran out of them, just as she suspected. They all waited in silence for Leafpaw to return.
By the time Leafpaw did return, Hiddenpaw had woken with a start. He opened his mouth to say something, but he flinched and closed it again. Tigerpaw knew he must be feeling the pain of his wounds. "Don't worry," Snowleaf tried to comfort him. "You'll be alright."
Even Tigerpaw doubted Snowleaf's words. His wounds looked nasty, and even if he was healed, he'd be scarred for life. She knew that might not matter a bit to Hiddenpaw, but every time she looked at him she would remember the awful loners, and the flashing of claws, yowls of pain . . . even though she wasn't there to see it happen. What she would remember most vividly was the bleeding body of him, the pain he was in, and all the bad things that happened. She sighed, and looked at Hiddenpaw. His eyes were only opened slightly. Tigerpaw looked away, and saw Tearpaw pacing around a few tail lengths away. Tigerpaw looked at Ravenstar, who was just staring at Silverpelt. "Aquarain," mewed Ravenstar, turning her gaze to the silvery blue warrior. "Can you take Leafpaw, Tigerpaw and Tearpaw back to camp?" Aquarain bowed her head, and padded over to the three apprentices. "Come on," she mewed gently. "You must be tired."
