From 16 Sept 06
Band practice from 9-2 was hard. We only ended up going through our show twice. -.- It was really annoying having to play my tuba while marching forward backward sideways you name it. After a two hour break I came back to my school at 4 and got all my stuff ready to go. After an hour or so drive we arrived at our competition. We had to cross the street and march a distance before we got to the field, my right arm was gonna fall off...
During our show I ran into one flute while marching backwards and I didn't make it to one of my spots. We got a 68.8 and made got 2nd in our group.
We ended up returning to the school at 12:20 AM
From 18 Sept. 06:
Todays band pratice went really well. We got through a good portion of the last movement marching with our instruments but not playing. In the three hour pratice we had all we got was one 10 minute break. Like three inches behind me in one part of the show is a mellophone, he says I have been close to hitting him.

21 Sept 06
Ok Today we had the first football of the year... I felt like my hand was gonna fall off marching with the tuba in my right hand only to the field. When we got there and started playing music in the stands it was annoying cause the two tubas (me and my section leader) would have our instruments up with only one hand on it since we need to hold up our music and then the Drum Majors would either change what song we were gonna play or taking forever to start. During the first half of the game because I have a bad habit of saying "meow" or making other various cat sounds (which annoys my section leader greatly) I got threatened by him to be broken emotionally or physically so I would stop.
The show went ok. It was hilarious because the annoucer person said "Africa" (which was last years show) instead of Pirates (this years show.) He then tried to correct himself by saying "African Pirates" During the marching I slipped and almost fell when marching backwards. I didn't make it to my spot (which was the same one mentioned in the previous post) On the plus side I didn't hit the flute player and the tubas got to do Shoulders! (which is when we bring our tubas behind our heads)
Here are some other quotes/conversations we had
tuba: Hey Trumpet will you be my male girlfriend? Trumpet: Sure me: But wait wasn't Chorusmember supposed to find you one?
Tuba brought a sign with him that says "FREE LOUIE" Tuba: *holds up sign and begins calling for Drum Major* most of band: *joins in calling for Drum Major*
about three seconds left in the game and the cheerleaders are saying "Beat the Spartans" me: Is it just me or does it sound like they're saying "Beat the Smurfs?" Trumpet: Well since they have the intellegence of a pickle....

From 23 Sept 06
Today was pratice from 8am to 1 pm... In the rain (When it was raining) After that we had lunch and loaded the buses to go to where we have to marching in a parade. The advantages of taking the colorguard bus there is so much room on it. PRetty much everyone could have a seat for themselves if they wanted to. It was also funny cause the Drum Major who was on the bus infront of us wrote something on a piece of paper and showed it to the colorguard captrain through the bus. As far as I know it said Band is better then Colorguard.
When we got to the parade area pretty much everyone was hoping it would rain like last year so we wouldn't have to march, it didn't though. My band director said that the parade was short but it wasn't. It was really hard for me with the tuba to play for that long. On the plus side I got to meet one of the tuba players who was in the band before I was a freshman.
Afterwards we got to walk around the place (it was a carnival-type place) we just had to say with at least one other person. One of my friends said she was gonna go on rides so I didn't want to go with her. Another 3 were going with each other ad I didn't feel like going with them. So I did what I did last year find a friend and just follow them around the whole time.
My section leader on the bus ride home told be he didn't eat anything cause he didn't want a repeat of last year (he got sick and he thinks it's cause I let him have some of my chocolate milk that I bought) So it was really funny seeing him take a bottle of it and going "My mortal enemy...Do I trust you"
I was pretty much dead when I got back home.

Today was alright. I was late cause I had to get my glasses. We got through the fourth movement marching and playing. Apparently I hit a mellophone player's mellophone a couple times (he is like directly behind me)
Apparently our drum majors can't stay in time with the metranome and then blames us when we get confused.
Fun part was when we ran back to whatever set we were supposed to we almost got into crashes.
One of my friends pushed another of my friends right when me and a mellophone player was passsing by so he almost got hit by a tuba and a mellophone and got knocked to the ground. It was funny.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE WON! WE WON FIRST! BY 5 POINTS! For the 1st time in 6 YEARS! It's also my BD's first ligitimate win!
We had a really hard pratice from 8 am- 2:30 pm. If someone got 3 strikes they could complete. And when we got to the competition it was one strike.
We also found a praying mantis during pratice and a 5 leaf clover at the show.
The U.S. Naval academy was at the competition. They were very good.
At the end we freak out completely. Everyone was trying to high-five the Drum Majors. I was able to touch all of the trophies that we got.
After that we went to Friendlys to celebrate... If I had a scanner I'd show you want we all drew. We're planning on giving it to our Band director after I get it photocopied.
QUOTES me: You know how BD hounded us today....Now he's gonna do that everytime... sax: But it wasn't cause of the pratice me: You're right it is cause of the praying mantis and 5 leaf clover we found.
me: Why are we Trojans? Our mascot should be a praying mantis or a 5-leaf clover... Or both!
*Watching the U.S Naval Academy*
me: Tuba... Did I just see what I think I saw or was I imaging it. Tuba: You weren't. The have 4 valve silver tubas. I said "Go Tubas" and one of them lifted their tuba up. me: I know I saw it.
Tuba: I want to join the Navy. *to clarinet* Can I join the navy? Clarinet: Sure Tuba: Good cause Mello said I couldn't.
Colorguard: Do you want to say "You're my idols?" me: Sure Colorguard: One two three me + colorguard: YOU'RE MY IDOLS Colorguard2: You're weirdos me: Thank you.
Bass Clarinet: Look how shiny their shoes are. me: I know... Shiny...
me: *counts tubas. gets 11. Counts again later gets 13 counts a third time (actually more like 10th) later gets 15* 15 tubas... 15 4 valve silver tubas... They have over 7 times more tubas then we have!
*after awards when Drum Majors brings over trophies. We're all trying to high-five the Drum Majors* Flute: Drunken mob, with out the alchohol.

WOOT! Home Comeptition! We acted in it. It was great. One of my friends hit my hand during our trandition brass bang mouthpieces together for luck thing.
Also I think I need to make a teeshirt with a Praying Mantis and 5 leaf clover on it. It seems to be our good luck charms...

Band banquet Wednesday was very funny
here's some quotes
tuba section leader: THis has been the biggest section since my freshman year. We have two whole people. me: am I really a person though? tuba section leader: I give the Best Veteran tuba award to myself. I should give the best new tuba award to myself too because I'm that awesome but I'll be nice and give it to [me] trombone: TWELVE!
(the next day tuba section leader made me throw out his garbage because "out of the kindness of his heart he gave me the best new tuba award")
For the superlatives there was best Halloween costume.
For male: a Flute player for female: the same flute player (He was dressed up as a girl. It's like a tradition in the flute section. Well it seems like it anyway)
Then there was the slide show. They started by saying "And now... ...without further ado... ...we present... the (here they list 5 adjectives one at a time each one being a slide) ...the... we're running out of adjectives.... ...help us... ... ...oh the show.... ...riiiight.... ...We now present Pirates.... ...Or was it African Pirates?.... ....Pirates in Africa?.... ....Natural African Pirates on Fire?.... then they started the slide show Each of the above was one slide.
Anyway the African Pirates came from what I wrote that happened on Sept 21. The Natural and Fire reference was shows that they did before I came to my high school. It was The Natural World the year before I came and Firebird the year before that.
The Band couple mentioned in the slideshow was two guys because they were always near each other at competitions and pratices. Someone in the Algebra 2 class made a comment about how they got Band Couple.
Anyway the slideshows are always funny.
