[ ;D A companion to "DragonWing", which I finished recently. Enjoy!]
It was just so wrong-it was the perfect plot. What a foolish rumor- they said that she couldn't hate. But Gsalede knew better. She knew cruel tactics, the way a young draeca's thoughts raced, and lit upon it like a hawk against a mouse.
"This has to be a lie," the draeca screamed; Gsalede smiled cruelly as she listened to the dragon-girl's prattle.
"My dear," she whispered in a nasty tone, "oh, my dear, it's by far the most truthful thing I've ever said."
The girl's lip quivered, but she bravely pressed on. "I don't know who you are," she spat, "but my mother won't be very happy when she find's out I'm gone!"
"That's what I'm counting on," Gsalede said grimly, turning away from the imprisoned girl. "Her anger...her power...is just what I need..."
She left the cavernous room, leaving the bound girl completely alone.
~~
The sun rose, lighting the rocky, mountain landscape with its warm rays. Gaen lifted her head appreciatively to the warmth and smiled, her eyes drifting closed. Her dragoness, Gonfern, was off hunting- she hadn't had the chance for at least a week. Currently, the young woman was supposed to be babysitting her 'kits' as well as her own daughters, a pair of lovely twins she had named Gwin and Gaeloedwen.
As the sunlight touched Gaen's hair, at a distance it looked as though her long, blazing red strands were actual fire; her sharp, purple eyes were like two miscolored, burning embers. Gaen knew this, but wasn't worried- it was natural for her kind, the draecan, to acquire the features of fire, as they were kin with it. Well, they were kin to dragons, actually.
Gaen, however, carried her own secret. She was a fullblood dragoness, prophetically called "The Amethyst"- a fitting title due to her dragon form... She could take the form of a massively sized dragoness with beautiful, purple scales. Her maw could summon silvery-violet flames, and a circlet of ruby-like gems were encrusted just above her eyes, a source for her magic.
Honestly, Gaen hadn't been pleased with this gift of late. After the birth of her and Gymor's children, her abilities had slowly ebbed away, and her dragon-form could only be triggered by extreme need from her draecan-form.
She turned her head to greet her husband as footsteps hailed the nearly-invisible pathway to where she sat. But as their eyes met, Gaen immediately knew something was terribly wrong.
"G-Gymor?" she asked, trying to keep her voice from trembling. "What's wrong? Where's Gaeloedwen?" she added when she caught sight of a lone Gwin.
Gwin ran to her mother and flung herself into Gaen's arms. She stroked her daughter's hair as Gymor gasped out a few words-
"Gaeloedwen...she's been stolen away..."
The color faded away from Gaen's world and blood began to pound in her ears...

;D
Gaen threw her head back to the clouds and sent an ear-shattering roar into the heavens. Gymor winced and curled up slightly, covering his ears in pain; Gwin's eyes widened and she looked at her mother in awe.
The roar increased in volume and strength until the world seemed to shake around Gaen's feet; abruptly, she stopped her cry and closed her mouth, leaving her surroundings ringing with the noise.
In a small voice, Gymor asked, "What the heck did you do?"
Gaen grinned at him weakly. "I did the only thing I could-- I called Gonfern."
Five small shapes glided over the crown of the rocks and toward Gaen. They landed respectfully at her feet, little mirror images of their mother, Gonfern. Gaen bent and opened her arms, which the smallest of the five jumped into happily. "Mother," it purred aloud, which sounded like a collection of content growls and hums to any draecan who could not understand spoken dragontongue.
"What did she say?" asked Gymor, right on cue, and Gaen translated for him.
"Why did you call the dragoness?" squeaked the dragon kit that she held in her arms, called Gonwing.
In spoken dragontongue, Gaen replied, "Do you remember your sister, Gaeloedwen?"
"Of course, Mother."
Gaen sighed heavily, tears welling in her eyes. "We don't know where she is."
Gymor looked over to Gwin and held his daughter's hand. Good-naturedly, he told her, "Sometimes I feel like we're left out of all the good stuff."
Gaen ignored him. Setting Gonwing back onto the ground, she warned all of the kits to step back. A fierce wind began to grow around them as Gonfern lit on the ground, an annoyed and worried look on her face; in unision, Gonfern's and Gaen's heads jerked back and stared blankly into the sky with blazing purple eyes. Violet flames licked up Gaen's legs and surrounded her; with a cry, a massive amethyst-covered dragoness burst forth. She bowed her head to greet a frantic Gonwing, and turned back to look at her husband.
"Well?" she snarled aloud, and realized he could not understand. Out of courtesy, she repeated in mindspeak.
<I'm not sure what you mean?> Gymor stammered nervously.
<Get on,> she snapped, exasperated, and lowered herself to the ground, spreading out a large wing for him to climb on with. Curling her neck around so she could observe this, she waited until he was seated comfortably around a spine in her crest and turned to look at Gwin. <I think it's best if you stay here> she told her daughter gently. <Mind Gonfern.>
Gonfern nodded, and Gonwing looked from Gaen, now known to dragons as Gonstar, like her late father, to Gonfern, and whimpered. "I want to come with you," she chirped sadly.
"You should stay here. Like I said, mind Gonfern. Be good. I'll be back soon, I promise."
Her four other siblings-Gonspiral, Gonheart, Gonflare, and Gonstreak-had already claimed places on their mother's back and eyed Gonstar (Gaen) distrustfully. She smiled kindly back at them and turned to eye Gymor.
<Let's go. Are you ready?>
White-faced, Gymor nodded weakly and clutched the spine for dear life. Gonstar smiled and rocketed into the sky.

I will be honest. I'd forgotten completely about the DragonWing sequel. ;D The version of DragonWing that I am rewriting is far different, so it was kind of funny - in a way - to see that here, 'Gaeloedwen' is Gaen's daughter. In the story I hope to - eventually - get published, Gaen is a reincarnation of Gaeloedwen, who was the first female dragon, locked away into a draeca's form. XD And Gymor's name was changed to Goddan in the new story. I'll continue this story, though, just for my few TSF fans. ~ Gonstar constantly had to remind herself to keep a steady flight path, in courtesy to Gymor. She loved her dragon form and was absolutely dying to roll and twist in the air along the thermals. <Do you have to hold on so tightly?> she asked her husband, feigning irritation. <I'm sorry> he apologized quickly, <but I don't exactly enjoy this kind of stuff.> She shook her head. <I'm being very careful to keep you on my back> she told him. <The least you could do in return is trust me enough not to let you fall.> Gymor shifted his weight, and she let out a thrumming sound - laughter. He loosened his arms only a little with the movement, and she laughed again. <Fine. Do what you like, Gymor.> She spread her wings to the fullest and leaped forward into the sky, jostling her passenger just enough to frighten him. Of course, he did not fall. <Gaen!> he screeched in her mind. She laughed even harder, a sound similar to large bells being struck with extremely heavy mallets. The crystalline sound pierced through her husband, and he relaxed again. <Please> he begged, <for my sake. Would you please not do that?> Gonstar smiled to herself, ignoring the comment, and eyed the cloud cover with a critical eye. <I can't scent her> she said quietly in dismay. <It's like...Gael just vanished.> <Can your Focus sense hers?> Gymor wondered. <My Focus was strengthened by you, but it's not nearly enough for me to sense another's if the person is far away.> Gonstar lifted her head. <I'll try.> Closing her blazing eyes, she took a deep breath and concentrated, sending forth a fiery pulse. Far below her, draecan lifted their eyes to the sun, awestruck by her presense, but unable to see the dragon's large, slender form. Far away, the tiniest heartbeat found her Focus, and she froze, closing in. It was, indeed, her daughter's, but extremely far away. Almost all the way on the other side of the Expanse, the great black sea. Gymor joined with her mind a moment later, listening to the responding Focuses. Only when Gonstar picked out a single heartbeat in the many could he concentrate on the feel of its pulse. <That's Gaeloedwen!> he cried. Gonstar dipped her head, furious. <Whoever took her must've had a dragon. No one can travel quickly enough to be on the other side of the ocean in such a short time.> <I agree. We need to go back and tell Gonfern what we've found.> Gonstar nodded. <I'm losing grip on my dragon form> she said suddenly, and Gymor noticed how strained her voice sounded. She turned and set off for their home on the cliffside, flying as swiftly as she dared with her waning power and terrified passenger. They flew in utter silence, as Gonstar struggled vainly to keep hold of her dragon form. Abruptly, Gymor felt nothing but the wind underneath him as he plummeted toward the black waves of the Expanse. With a desperate cry, he looked around for his beloved Gaen, and caught sight of her slight form falling toward the ocean helplessly. Her eyes were closed, her skin completely pale as the amethyst fire died underneath it. Her blazing red hair, like the flame it resembled, flew behind her in a molten spray. And suddenly, Gaen was gone as the ocean swallowed her oncoming form. Horrified, he managed to right himself and call out a single word of power. The water began to steam underneath him, clearing to a sharp, sunlit blue. He struck the purified water with a resonating slap and brought his hands together. Cold, icy blue water flew in a perfect line toward where he'd seen Gaen last. As he peered through the waves, he saw nothing of her.
