As soon as Gaen returned, she could tell something was wrong. Gonfern's Focus was buzzing like a nest of bees and her tail thrashed exotic patterns on the nest's floor. She rushed to the dragoness's side, discarding Gonfern's ,meal of fish to the floor. <My la- Gonfern? What's wrong?>
Gonfern shook her head. <Nothing, Gaen. I... Nothing.> In a faint voice, she told the draeca, <I believe I'll go out hunting this afternoon. Do you think you can slip away to guard my eggs during my absense?>
<Of course> Gaen replied without thinking. <It will be an honor, Gonfern. I'll be here when the sun reaches highest.>
The dragoness nodded. <Thank you.> She ate Gaen's catch with relish and when she finished, she eyed the girl kindly. <You truly are a magnificent huntress. I'm sure your family is very proud of you.>
Well, at least two members, Gaen thought privately, before telling Gonfern, <I am flattered. My thanks, Gonfern.>
The dragoness purred gently and settled around her clutch to nap before her outing.

Ok, here's a LONG overdue chapter--Enjoy!
[glow=red,2,300]Legend:[/glow] The Dragon’s Time
The star-dragon’s name was Gon. That was its main thought. It was born from fire; it was living because of fire. So its name must mean fire. It swirled around Earth a few times, joyously reveling in its ability of flight, pounding its wings once to fly higher, stronger, or faster. The backwind flared around Earth and pushed it onto its side--it began to turn very slowly, then faster as the wind filled the new solar system, giving each planet a new, powerful speed.
Gon slowly brought its wings to its sides, and settled down, floating in the nothingness around it. It began to feel like it desperately needed a name, an identity. I am male, it decided quietly. I am male, and I am Gon. I am Fire.
Gon liked Earth. It felt like it was his--as if he needed to protect it. In its center, he knew, was the same kind of fire, the same Gon that kept him alive. The other planets and moons were cold. They had no Gon, no fire--no heart at all. But Earth needed guardians, people of the Gon to protect it and relish it. He brought his neck upward and gently let sparks rain down upon Earth from his muzzle. Land sprung upward, fire flaring from its surface. He repeated the procedure, and this time, water formed. Blue rivulets and blue blobs formed next to the blazing land. It was not good water. It could not hold life. Gon could not do anything about it--he only controlled the fire.
This gave him an idea. Rearing back, he bellowed, and flame shot from his maw into a large star nearest him. It flared brightly, and formed into another creature like himself. Warily, it flexed its tail. It was female, Gon decreed silently. Her muzzle was long and slender, her eyes deep, frosty blue. Her scales were sparkly, pure white, curved inward ever-so-slightly and reflected the flickering of stars. Her tail was long than Gon’s, and was about two times her body’s size.
He tested his maw again, and spoke for the first time in a guttural voice that thrummed with ancient energy. “Welcome, daughter,” he said as gently as he could.
Carefully, she flexed her claws and replied, “I greet you, Father.”
“I am Gon,” the male said in his snarling voice.
“I call myself Gale. I thrive in water, and I must respect that element in my name.”
Gon nodded. “You are wise, Gale.”
She opened her maw and shot ice-cold water, frost-flowers forming and dancing elegantly on the flow, before fading away. A new dragon stood in the place where it landed. Shaking its long neck and tail, it rose. Its scales were black as the nothingness, shimmering as it moved. Its tail was as long as its body, with four spikes crowing the end. Its wings were immense, larger than Gon, Gale, and the new dragon side by side.
“You are male,” Gon decided. Large horns twisted upward, starting a shimmering, fiery crest along its back. It roared a throaty tone that sent shivers down his spine. It did not reply, nor acknowledge Gon or Gale.
When it turned to Gon, its eyes were blank. They had no energy of life. Gale was horrified, and her father pressed against her side comfortingly. He breathed sparks into the black dragon’s maw and nostrils and watched as understanding and intelligence flared in its eyes.
“Mother,” he growled, bowing. “Father. I am Gor--I am Night.”
Together, the three dragons created Plant, called Gae; Moon, called Gala; Earth, called Gaia; Wind-Sky, called Gel; and another, unnamed fire-dragon. “Listen, my children,” snarled Gon. “This planet is Earth. It is what you were born to protect. You must protect it with your life. You will each have three offspring of your own from whatever element you claim--but from then on, you will claim a mate of the opposite gender and hatch your children from eggs. And it is only fair you are recognized by your future offspring--every dragon of your element must have a name that starts with yours.” He turned to the unnamed dragon. “Your destiny is to take my place on Earth,” he told his son seriously. “Your name is Gonstar. It means ‘fire-star’. You will be a legend, and you will make sure I am not forgotten. I will watch over you--I will watch over you all.”
Gale came up to Gon. “It is as if you were leaving, my Gon,” she told him, her voice pained.
He nodded sadly. “Take care, all of you!” he called. “When you cannot live any longer, you will join me in Paradise. Be well.” He turned, and opened his wings with a whisper. Suddenly he shot off, knifing through the nothingness with ease. It took him a day to fly past a smaller planet before Earth. Finally, he found what he was looking for--the solar system’s largest star. Slamming into it, he felt its searing heat. It burned him. “I am here,” he roared. “You gave birth to me--I now wish to become a star like you!”
Slowly, his body merged with the star, and it grew white-hot and larger than any star known to this day. He became Gon.

That was rather long...if you didn't read the whole thing, it basically explained Earth's creation and why dragon names start with "Gon". But I'm mean, so I won't tell you how! SO HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Thankies! =^-^= You and Featherstream ROCK for reading this!!!
Gonfern woke with a start, and settled down again. What a strange dream. She felt like she'd had this one before....
She rearranged her position once more and slept.
~~
"Where are you going, Gaen?"
Gaen gave a start and whirled around. She has thought that no one had followed her to the forest edge, and was rather annoyed she had let her guard down. Gonfern MUSTN'T be found by any of the others--
The boy, an annoying young man of thirteen summers, was called Gymor. He felt himself higher than any of the other dragonchildren, due to his high-ranking apprenticeship to the village's leader, Garrathon. Only Gaen could best Gymor with her powers. She should had known better--almost immediately, Gymor tried out the new trick Garrathon had taught him.
Examining another's Focus whilst the victim was unaware.
His eyes widened, and all too late did Gaen feel his presence in her mind. She expelled him fiercely, but not soon enough; his face had paled, and his eyes darted from Gaen to the path she took to Gonfern, as though trying to decide whether or not to tell Garrathon first or find Gonfern. Tears filled Gaen's eyes; she squeezed them shut and clenched her fists. Like it or not, she could no longer protect her dragon.
Wait. Did she call Gonfern HER dragon? That was a lie. Gonfern was independant. She shook her head, confused and angry. There was nothing left to do.
Except...
She sent out a pulsating cry to Gonfern's Focus and turned at the same time. The pounding warning call, concealed by dragontongue, slammed into the minds of any drac-attuned beings surrounding her for a wide berth. Gymor stumbled back, looking punched, and Gaen ran.
She ran and ran. Finally feeling safe enough to contact Gonfern without any others overhearing, she summoned contact with the dragoness and sobbed out her story mentally. At the end, there was a terrible silence, but Gaen knew she still listened.
There was a determined sigh that Gaen could detect along with the words that Gonfern spoke: <Come to the den. We're leaving.>
<We're leaving?>
<Yes. There's no time to gather supplies. We can find provisions along the way. But its far too dangerous to remain here.>
<Dangerous? But my tribe->
Gonfern snapped a heated reply. <They revere me? What do they know of a birthing dragoness? Nothing! And I am troubled. A male, Gonspar, is hunting me. It's deadly to stay in one place, and I want you to come.>
Tears of relief filled Gaen's eyes. She wanted to hit herself for saying this: <But I'm just a-->
<Draeca-girl? If you speak nonsense, we loose time. Let's go!>
Grinning, Gaen broke the mental connection and took off for Gonfern's den at a run.
~~
Gonspar smiled to himself. He had a strong lock on his lost beloved's Focus, pulsing faintly, but in reach.
He was on his way. There would be nowhere for Gonfern to go, after her magical ordeal, and she was far too proud to Bond with a dragonchild.
She would not hide from him again.

Thankies! Y'all rock!
~~ Garrathon licked his suddenly dry lips, his eyes lit with greed. "Are you sure, Gymor? That is what you saw precicely?"
Gymor, from his rather uncomfortable position bowing on the floor, gave an affirmative, muffled grunt.
"There is no time to waste! Our dragoness, Gonfern, has Chosen little Gaen, and if she flies, Gaen will accompany her." He stood fiercely, sending the chair he sat in backwards.
Gymor whimpered in reply, unsure if it was wise to stand as well. "But, my master, what will we accomplish by stopping them?"
Garrathon glanced down at the dolt-headed child sniveling at his feet. "SILENCE! I will tell you, you arrogant, foolish imposter! It is not what we accomplish by stopping Gaen, but what we acquire. We will capture the key to making our kind, the draecan, full-blooded dragons. We will have our true forms at last!"
"What does....Gaen have to do with this?"
Garrathon sighed, gritting his teeth. "Are you really that dense? Idiot draec, Gaen has bonded with Gonfern, and the dragoness will not depart without her. Their power is strong together, but there is something else--I have suspected it for a long time." He glared down at Gymor. "Stand, stupid boy, and we'll be off!"
Hastily, Gymor stood, and the two swiftly ran the path Gaen had taken. "Gaen is not a simple draeca," Garrathon continued. "Her blood is not part dragon, but full dragon. She is an abnormality, a girl made of fire and a power so ancient that it ceases to exist! She is the only one of her kind, and if we let the dragoness and her girl get away, she will take the true form for herself!"
"Gaen isn't that selfish," Gymor defended, although he didn't know why.
"She cannot help the fire that will consume her, and she will be powerless to stop the transformation," the older man snarled. "Gonfern and Gaen alike both do not know what will happen, and they definately are clueless that they are pawns in something far, far larger. Gaen is the daughter of Gon. She has no real mother. She feels anguish, but she does not know why. She has power, but cannot reach it or control it. She feels love, but it is blocked by destiny. Do you understand?"
"What does this...have to do...with us?" gasped Gymor piteously.
He was ignored. "I have found a way to reverse the transformation," Garrathon replied, still breathing easily. "We can harness it to suit us all."
It was then that Gymor decided he would protect Gaen.
~~ Gaen burst into the den, terribly short of breath. She staggered into Gonfern, who supported her and hummed comfortingly, her blazing red hair falling into her slanted eyes.
Gonfern thrummed to Gaen, <Welcome. I have a favor to ask, I am afraid, for I see you are not physically well.>
Gaen didn't argue with this observation. <I will serve you, Gonfern.>
The dragon snorted, but said nothing. <Place your palms on my neck and transfer as much fire-derived power you can. I need magic if we are to flee properly, and bring my eggs with us.>
Without disobeying, Gaen thrust her arms out and pressed her hands upon Gonfern's slender, scaly neck. But before she could complete the task, she was stopped by a strange, powerful snarl. The voice reminded her of finding out she was adopted, filling her with rage and sorrow, and brought only unhappy memories when she searched for a haven from the emotions. Pressing her hands against her ears instead, Gaen cried out as the voice formed words- <My beloved one.>
Gonfern bristled instantly, fire shining in her eyes as they acquired a bright violet glow. In a voice that was not her own, she snarled, <Leave me, Gonspar.>
Pressed against Gonfern's side, seeking relief from the painful words. <I've searched all over for you, and you've not even a hello for me? Shame. But then again, I'm only here to crush the dragon kits that could have been mine.> Menacingly, he took a step forward.
And that's when Garrathon and his apprentice, Gymor, appeared.
