Prologue
A white and silver she-cat with jet black ears was exploring the forest near the Twoleg gardens. It was moonhigh now, and she saw the same green eyes staring out into the forest. The cat sighed. "I just don't know . . . they will come to us, we're not going to them." the black-eared cat mewed quietly. She backed into the trees again and glanced around. Not a mouse was stirring, it seemed as if she were the only cat out in the forest right now. The cat brushed past tall heather that was growing and there were a few cats out in the clearing. There was a very tall tree, caves and everything where the cats slept. But this wasn't even half of the forest. "Wingstar!" a cat called, racing over to the black-eared she-cat. The cat approaching her was a pale brown she-cat with darker flecks. "Wingstar." the cat mewed once she reached Wingstar. "The patrols scented some kittypets on our territory. What should we do with them?" the cat asked. "Nothing." and with that, Wingstar left camp again. She pelted away, thinking. "Everything is happening too fast." she muttered. "I need some time to think!" she stopped in a small clearing and climbed a large oak until she was at the top branch. She scanned over the territory, and looked at the Twolegplace. The pair of green eyes was still staring out into the forest, but another pair joined them. Wingstar sighed. She laid down on the thick branch and soon, fell asleep. "Duskstar? Is that you?" asked Wingstar, narrowing her eyes to see the white shape more clearly. "Yes, Wingstar, it is me." the white she-cat mewed calmly. "Duskstar, I'm so confused! There are so many kittypets that wish to join the Clan, and I don't know if I should invite them, or leave them to come to us!" Wingstar exclaimed. Duskstar smiled. "Wingstar, only destiny can tell. If they truly wish to join, what do you think you will do? Do you want kittypets in your Clan? Honestly, Wingstar, you've got to think these things over." and with that, the white shape of Duskstar faded away. A few moments later, Wingstar awoke and jumped down from the branch. She sighed, and padded back to camp.
Chapter One
Tiger sighed half heartedly. He was in his nest in a big den his house folk and him lived in. Tiger liked living with house folk, and one of the house folk was very nice to him, and he admired her. The dark tabby also had two she-cats living on either side of his house folk's den. They were very kind to him. Across his den, was where another tom named Lion lived. Lion was detirmined to join the wild cats. Unlike Lion, Tiger loathed wild cats. He thought they were mean and why bother fighting over territory like that? Prey was good there, but when snow fell onto the ground, Tiger thought about living with them, and began hating the wild cat life even more. But sometimes he sneaked over there, and stole prey. He didn't care who saw him, once he caught as little as a skinny mouse, he leaped back over the fence. He saw narrowed eyes glaring at him more than once, but the cats never got him in time. But what worried him is that one of his neighbor she-cats looked excited to join the wild. The she-cat thought that Tiger hadn't seen the glimmers of excitement and happiness every time she looked over the fence into the forest. Tiger would want to go with her, because she was his best friend. He would do anything for her. The she-cat was a calico cat with icy blue eyes. Her name was Heather. Tiger admired Heather more than anything, except his house folk. He knew the house folk he liked was named Mariah. Mariah played with Tiger every day, during every free time she would pick him up and stroke him or rub his belly. Tiger liked playing with the house folk, especially Mariah. Although he couldn't understand what she was saying, he enjoyed listening to the sound of her voice. Mariah was the only house folk-kit he didn't growl at or scratch at. What was good was that Mariah was friends with the house folk who had Heather and Smudge, the second she-cat who lived there. Mariah brought Tiger with her every time she went there.
Tiger purred. He saw Mariah approaching him happily. She picked him up, and stroked him. "We're going to Holly's house, Tiger! You get to see Heather and Smudge." Mariah told him. The only words he understood were Holly, Tiger, Heather and Smude. But just the mention of Heather's name made him purr, and a glimmer of excitement, happiness and admiration appeared in his light green eyes. Mariah - who was still holding him in her arms - began walking through the den, and to a big thing with something the house folk turned to open the thing, and close it. Holding Tiger with one arm, she opened the thing with her free hand. There was a small flap that would fit Tiger through if he wanted to go outside. He wouldn't wait for his house folk to open it for him. Mariah stepped out of the den, and closed the thing again. She began walking down a path. She held Tiger, making sure he wouldn't jump, even though she knew he would never do that. She turned direction, and went onto Heather's house folk's dens territory. She walked up to the thing house folk used to get in and out, and knocked on it. In a few moments, the thing burst open and Mariah's friend, Holly came out. "Hello, Mariah!" Holly greeted her friend. Tiger only understood the word Mariah. Mariah greeted her friend back, and the two stepped into the den. Tiger jumped out of Mariah's arms, and raced over to Heather who was waiting beside something the house folk sat on. "Heather!" he yowled excitedly. Heather had a look of sorrow, excitement and something else Tiger didn't recognize in her eyes. Tiger slowed down, and the smile on his face was washed away by a slight frown. "What's wrong?" he murmured lightly. "I..." Heather began. "I've decided to join the wild cats!" she mewed at last.
Tiger stared at her in astonishment. "Don't you like your house folk?" he asked. Heather snorted. "First of all, my house folk don't care for me as good as yours! Mine feed me twice a day, and ignore me the rest of the day. Smudge is ignored too. Fed twice a day, and ignored! Smudge is coming with me." Heather narrowed her eyes. "What about you?"
Tiger shuffled his paws uneasily. "Mariah cares for me. I'm fed three times a day, and get water refreshed five times a day. I usually don't eat the food. I get a bowl of milk every week, and Mariah plays with me, and spends almost her whole day with me." Tiger meowed, thinking of his house folk. "But..." he stammered. "I want to do anything for you... I want to go with you, but what will my house folk do without me? Mariah will be so depressed!"
Heather sighed. "You can stay, but Smudge and I are leaving." Heather replied, trying to hide the look of disappointment in her eyes. But the little bit of disappointment, and every other emotion in her eyes was replaced with excitement, hope, happiness and something else Tiger didn't recognize. "We're going to ask Lion, Flare and Flake to come. I don't care about those dumb house folk!" she sighed after that. "Not even yours."
Tiger flinched. "I'm not sure." he admitted. "But I want to go with you. Really."
Heather purred. "Then let's go!" she urged happily. 'Wait!" Tiger stopped her. Then he shook his head. "Are you sure we have to go now?"
Heather nodded. "This might be the only time in quite a while that Holly is busy with Mariah or someone else, I need to use this oppurtunity wisely." Heather insisted. Tiger sighed, and then nodded. "Just let me say good bye to Mariah. She was so good to me."
Heather murmured in agreement, and Tiger darted over to Mariah. "Good bye!" he purred, unhappily. He licked her. "I'll miss you, really..."
He went back to Heather, and saw that Smudge was standing next to Heather. Both she-cats stared at him, waiting for him to follow them. Sighing, Tiger slowly walked up to them. "Finally..." Heather murmrued. "Now let's get out of here!" Smudge yowled, and the two she-cats darted over to the flap of the thing the house folk used. Taking one last glance at Mariah, Tiger raced after the two. "First let's go to Flare and Flake!" Smudge suggested. "No way! Lion comes first!" Heather hissed impatiently. Smudge shrugged, and nodded. Tiger and Smudge followed Heather who was already in front of a large yellow tom who had thick, dark yellow fur in some places, like a lion's mane. He had light blue eyes dotted with dark green. Heather touched noses with Lion affectionately, and explained everything to him once Smudge and Tiger were by her side. Lion purred. "I'd love to go!"
Heather jumped happily. "Great!" she mewed. She wanted to say much more words of happiness, but didn't. "We're going to see if Flare and Flake will come with us." Smudge explained, her tortoisehell pelt was bright because of the shining sun. The four traveling cats darted over to Flake and Flare's house folk's den. They reached there very easily, it was only across the wide pathway. Tiger saw Flare and Flake play fighting with eachother, and Lion yowled to them. They turned their attention to the group of cats and greeted them warmly. Impatiently, Heather just skipped to the point. "Would you like to come with us?" she asked, after she had finished explaining what they were doing. The two cats hesitated. Flake was the first to speak. "No way!" the she-cat growled. "Not if Flake isn't coming." Flare refused. Without arguing, or pointing out the good possibilites to them, Heather sighed, and walked past the house folk's den. The four cats stared up at the wooden fence above them. "We're going past there, into the forest beyond..." Lion mumbled, staring up at it. "What are we waiting for? Hedgehogs to fly? Let's go!" she purred, and jumped onto the fence. Looking over it, she saw a lot of trees, and plants, but no sign of wild cats.... yet.
Tiger glanced around, unaware of his surroundings. "Are you sure we should go here?" he asked. Lion growled. "Whoever attacks, I can kill them!" Lion hissed. Lion acted as if he were the strongest, noblest and wisest cat ever. To Tiger, he just seemed selfish and showed off too much. Tiger sighed, and continued to pad after Heather and Lion, Smudge beside him, staring ahead. Tiger collapsed, feeling sharpened claws digging into his back. Heather and Lion turned around, while Smudge was already staring at Tiger and his attacker. A wild cat!

A wild cat!
